Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with the People of the Elephant?

chapter 105 sura

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

1. Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with the People of the Elephant?

2. Did He not make their plan go wrong?

3. He sent against them swarms of birds.

4. Throwing at them rocks of baked clay.

5. Leaving them like chewed-up leaves.


1Mac.1

  1. [17] Wherefore he entered into Egypt with a great multitude, with chariots, and elephants, and horsemen, and a great navy,

  1. [34] Moreover he delivered unto him the half of his forces, and the elephants, and gave him charge of all things that he would have done, as also concerning them that dwelt in Juda and Jerusalem:

  1. [30] So that the number of his army was an hundred thousand footmen, and twenty thousand horsemen, and two and thirty elephants exercised in battle.
  2. [34] And to the end they might provoke the elephants to fight, they shewed them the blood of grapes and mulberries.
  3. [35] Moreover they divided the beasts among the armies, and for every elephant they appointed a thousand men, armed with coats of mail, and with helmets of brass on their heads; and beside this, for every beast were ordained five hundred horsemen of the best.
  4. [46] Which done, he crept under the elephant, and thrust him under, and slew him: whereupon the elephant fell down upon him, and there he died.
