Book review SPOILER ALERT
Of a book by my favorite French author Guy De Maupassant
The name of the action packed short story is called The game keeper.
He's owned a piece of land had a lot of rabbits on it there was a very small Hut there. Mr Boniface only went there about 5 days a year... And the rest of the time when he wasn't there he hired a gamekeeper. His name was cavalier.
Also when Mr Boniface would go there a lady friend named Celeste would meet him there and cook for him.
Mr Boniface thought that cavalier was alone all year in the hut but I guess he had his 14-year-old cross eyed nephew there to run errands into town for him.
Anyway when Mr Boniface the owner showed up the game keeper had something bothering him... It came out that last winter there was a poacher on the land and the game keeper just could not catch him it was almost as if he was being tipped off.
Then one day he noticed his nephew had 40 cents in his pocket and he thought that you know maybe this nephew is charging the poacher rent and tipping him off.. and so he followed him out one night and I guess that's what was going on so he beat him and said when the owner shows up I'm going to beat him again in front of the owner.
The owners now here and the game keeper went and got the nephew and beat him down the nephew begged for pardon.
That night the Hut was on fire and the owner was the first to notice the fire and he was yelling for cavalier the game keeper but there was no noise so he loaded his gun. shot out the window .
And cavalier jumped out of the window. But his lady friend was burnt to a crisp... and it appeared that the fire was intentionally set then they saw the nephew running cavalier picked up the loaded gun shot and killed his own nephew
The next day the village people showed up and carried off cavalier the game keeper like he was a madman and there was a trial. The owner Mr boniface went to the trial. The game keeper was acquitted and he fled the country nobody ever saw him again
